When I removed them, I also added about 2 cups fresh AJ, to give just a little sweetness and fresh (unfermented) AJ flavor, plus a 1/4 tsp of malic acid, and put the keg on tap. So, with that in mind, for one gallon of cider, primed with either hiney or maple syrup, you would only need 1.8 Tablespoons. When you use honey, or maple syrup, you actually would use a smaller amount than you would if you were using sugar. The hops (only 1 oz in 4 gals, which I removed from the keg after a couple days of contact time) definitely adds citrus and spice. Scaling that down to a gallon would give you about 2.4 Tablespoons of sugar. I knew I wanted to dry-hop it (been into that lately) and decided to go with some Aramis I picked up a while ago, said to contribute floral and citrus flavors, which I thought would be great. Even though it was dry, it still tasted flavorful and fresh. It had a great apple flavor, and did have some of that body thanks to the yeast. The cider went down to an FG of 1.000 after a week or so, and then I racked into secondary where it sat for a year and a half - I got busy with other beers and ciders and just let it age.Ī couple weeks ago I decided to give it a try…wow. It is a farmhouse ale yeast, reported to generate a good amount of glycerol during fermentation, leading to increased body and a thicker feel. In July 2020, I made a cider using organic grocery store apple juice and a relatively new (to homebrewers) yeast, Jovaru from Omega.

Again, this appears to stem from too little front-end grip or too much weight. However, the Dirt Rally 2.0 Audi glides over tarmac without any real connection. ![]() Of course, avoiding oversteer, by way of subtle inputs, left-foot braking and more, is realistic. That is not the case in most rear-wheel drive cars in Dirt Rally 2.0. It even snaps back as the rear wheels regain grip – sometimes more than once in a corner. If you look at footage of this car on tarmac in real life, it is definitely not afraid of going sideways yet it appears happy to understeer. More like, ‘why did someone put a ton of bricks in the boot?’. That spoiler-laden rear end in Dirt Rally 2.0 feels like a liability. Because I remember this being a handful in Dirt 2.0.Īnd it still is – yes the two cars have nearly double the horsepower difference, but the Dirt 2 interpretation feels radically different in other ways. I have chosen two Spanish stages for the tarmac section and the Audi Quattro Group B rally car. The supposedly weakest surface in Dirt Rally 2.0 and one of the strongest in WRC 8 and onwards. However, overall Dirt Rally 2.0 feels less natural. On gravel Dirt Rally 2.0’s reduced intuitiveness is much less apparent in front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive cars, which in some rallies handle noticeably similar to WRC. Many drifts are unsavable – and that is not necessarily true in real life but is generally perceived as ‘realism’. Whatever the case, it creates a situation where (particularly in the case of rear-wheel drive cars) it is easy to spin and difficult to handle oversteer. It is difficult to narrow it down exactly. Or the grip coefficient is too low or some surfaces such as gravel are not grippy enough. In Dirt Rally 2.0, things can be slightly cumbersome, overly heavy and rear-weighted. WRC 10’s are lighter and more agile, which is what you would expect from a stripped-out, highly tuned piece of engineering. There is, as far as I can tell, a fundamental difference between the physics of the cars. However, oversteer is more easily corrected and you can use the trick of steering with the joystick forward to smooth out the steering. Even with input sensitivity down minus 10 you change direction rapidly and can snake all over the road in an oversteer frenzy. So what is different? Well, driving on gravel in WRC 10 can be more difficult because of the extra front-end grip. Then there is understeer if you brake too much and lock the wheels. Neither experience feels unintuitive or too much like you are gliding on top of the road.īoth games provide a granular surface feel and reduced traction, too, in the form of slower cornering speeds and traction issues when accelerating. Pushing hard in the 280 horsepower Fords, the handling difference between both games is at its smallest. Unfortunately it is not possible to match like-for-like so I went for a similar vibe. Up first, how does WRC 10 compare with Dirt Rally 2.0 on gravel? To find out, I decided to use the brilliant Finland stages. If you benefit from it, be sure to like and subscribe. So grab some popcorn and get comfy for I shall be giving my honest, probably too in-depth and potentially completely wrong opinions about WRC 10 and Dirt Rally 2.0. And yet with copies of both games available to me, I thought I would look at some side-by-side footage to compare. What does an idiot motoring journalist think, then? Has driving many cars made my opinion more valid? I doubt it. Is there a definitive answer? Probably not. And when it comes to rally drivers, opinions are mixed. The simple fact is that 99 per cent of players have never been near a rally car – let alone driven one. Inevitably you will see ‘passionate’ exchanges about which franchise is more realistic. Has time been kind and what does the newcomer offer? With the WRC 10 release date here, I thought I should revisit Dirt Rally 2.0 to see how these games stack up. Nor did I like the lack of force feedback (FFB).Īfter making 10 YouTube videos, I ended up shelving it – until now. In many ways it did raise the bar, but personally I never gelled with it. As a big fan of rally, I was excited to play a game that claimed greater realism than ever. It was February 2019 when I got my hands on Dirt Rally 2.0.
